Hula Retirement In this little hula lived 35 people war winter 1944/45. There, the house in 99 days. During this time, women and children hardly outside the cave. The men took a few trips out to provide food and other necessities of life and to hear radio. A small boat they had hidden nearby so occasionally frequented it also «Kokfesk». Kvithell cave is quite shallow and is vulnerable to the weather. The children were placed in the innermost and protected by the adults if the lake were to go too high. Cohesion was good, although it was not inevitable that it sometimes built up into small conflicts. Memory Plate 10 July 1994 unveiled the oldest surviving of cave dwellers, Gudrun Nilsen from Breivikbotn, a memorial plate Hasvik Historielag set up inside the cave. Every year during Sørøy Fair History Created concert in Kvithell cave and the area is a popular destination when the midnight sun heats up the long summer nights.
