Kárášjohka/Karasjok – De samiske samlinger/ The Sami collections

  RDM – De samiske samlinger i Karasjok ble åpnet i 1972. Museet skal dekke hele det samiske området. Museets hovedformål er å verne om samisk identitet, språk og kulturtradisjoner, utøve museums- og utstillingsvirksomhet, samle samisk kulturhistoriskKarasjok museum 1 materiale, spre informasjon i samsvar med formålet og å ta initiativ til å drive forskning. Videre er målsetningen å dokumentere og presentere samisk kultur og historie fra hele det samiske området. Siden museet kom i drift i 1972 har man lagt vekt påKarasjok museum 9 å samle inn, bevare og systematisere samisk gjenstandsmateriale. Samlingene, som i dag består av ca. 4 500 gjenstander, består av eldre kulturhistorisk materiale som i hovedsak kan knyttes til duodji, bruksgjenstander, tekstiler, næringer og transport. Museets permanente basisutstilling er delt i ulike temaer. Et tema omhandler de eldste tider i de samiske områder med gjenstander og illustrasjoner. Videre blir samenes primærnæringer, som f.eks. jordbruk, fiske og reindrift presentert.

  RDM – The Sami collections in Karasjok was opened in 1972. The museum will cover the entire Sami area. Furthermore, the objective is to document and present Sami culture and history of the entire Sami area.

Since the museum came into operation in 1972, emphasis was on collecting, preserving and systematize Sami relics. The collections, which currently consists of approximately 4,500 items, consisting of older cultural material that is primarily associated to duodji, artifacts, textiles, industries and transport. The museum’s permanent basis exhibition is divided into different themes. A theme deals with the earliest times in the Saami areas with artifacts and artwork. Furthermore, Sami primary, eg. farming, fishing and herding presented.
