The midnight sun at the North Cape plateau in Finnmark

The map shows the northern polar circle as a dashed circle. The midnight sun occurs in the summer between the vernal equinox and autumnal equinox in the areas between the polar circles and the poles. The duration of the midnight sun during summer increases with distance from the polar circle towards the northern and southern poles.
Midnight sun means that the sun at its lowest point during a single day, does not go below the horizon. Thus, if the cloud cover is not too thick, it will be visible 24 hours a day.
The effect is greatest at the poles where it is possible to see the sun continuously for six months.
In the areas that have midnight sun in summer, have the polar night as an equivalent period in the winter. The twilight effect (refraction) means that it will not necessarily be dark 24 hours a day, in the same way that there will be some light even before sunrise.
